"Penelope" ~ Antique Petite Chest ~ Now Funky & Chic

Here is another fabulous find that I fell in love with when I saw her ~ again, she looked a little ugly sad when I brought her to the shop but I had ideas running through the brain all the way home ~ I had actually gone to purchase some other items on this particular day but when I arrived ~ there she (Penelope) sat ~ I asked the lady if it was still available ~ she replied ~ well, someone is supposed to come and pick it up.  My response was, "oh, I don't hold anything for anyone ~ you know you may lose a sale like that" .  I had seen the items I was purchasing on C/L and since I knew it was going to take me a while to get to her home ~ I offered to pay her through paypal (I was a SERIOUS buyer......hehehe).  Well....guess what???  I was able to buy this piece too.

Here she is before we did anything to her:

She wasn't terribly ugly but she wasn't pretty either ~ she had some type of wallpaper covering on the top.  Well, we got rid of that paper real easy and the work began.  I decided I wanted something really bold, funky & chic ~ here is what I came up with:

Can you see the cool zebra print around the top???  Then I added some zebra knobs to give it more pizzazzzzzzzz.......so, are you wild about this one, like I am?  My granddaughter, Samantha, picked out this pink fuschia color ~ she has really good taste (at least I think so).....

Thanks for stopping by ♥

A Day at ~*yOuNiQuE727*~ This is where it all happens ~

We often follow blogs of our fellow designers, painters, artists, etc but never get to see where all the ACTION happens ~ so, today I decided to let you see our work space.  We aren't a big fancy store with cash registers, counters, security guards,  clerks  and everything else that comes with running a shop.  Nope, we are just a couple of sisters doing what God has given us the talent to do ~ and ♥ doing it ~

I actually started this by myself and then my sister, Nelda (call her Nel) wanted to help ~ she has always loved doing this so I said sure ~ first she was just sanding but now she's painting, glazing, & creating too!

We work in our little "shop" with the radio on, fan blowing, drinking our diet coke and talking the entire time; now, I must tell you, Nel is a workaholic hard worker ~ I have to remind her to stop and take a break ~

When the end of the evening comes ~ we are exhuasted but we wouldn't have it any other way ~ I think this is what you call a PASSION ♥

I don't have a big fancy office either but I love my space ~ I have my computer, my chair, and furniture all around me waiting to be claimed ~

Last, but not least, this is the 1st place I come to every time I step away for awhile ~ my chair and my purse ~ can't be without either of these two :)

"Ava" ~ The French Provencial Desk

I posted several "treasures" a few weeks ago and one of them was "Ava" ~ she is a french provencial style desk with lots of beautiful curves, gorgeous details.  I remember as a child that french provencial style was considered "elegant"; well, in my neighborhood it was.  My parents had some some friends that a living room set ~ all "french provencial" ~ we were NOT allowed to sit on their couches if we went over there.  Well, with that in mind, I never cared for this "french provencial" style because I didn't have fond memories of it.

Now, as I've gotten older  more fashion savy, I ♥ the style ~  it reminds me of elegance, gracefulness, class,  o.k.,......you get what I mean.  Well, Ava is all the above.  She is absolutely full of elegance and beauty.  I have decided to paint her a pretty blue and distressed her ~ the only thing missing is the hardware; but I know EXACTLY what to get.  Here is a picture of  AVA before:

Now, I will show you just a sneak peak of what she looks like now; remember, I have to add the jewelery and she will be ready for the ball.

As always, I appreciate you reading my blog ~ have any pictures of anything you have done?  Send them to me ~ I would love to see them ♥

Abby ~ The Beautiful Little Side Table

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend ~ it was great weather here in Houston, Tx, a little hot but that's Texas for you.  When you have a little business like yOuNiQuE727, you never know if you're going to be extremely busy or things are going to be slow ~ here lately, its been GREAT.  Could be that the pieces I'm picking up are just gorgeous, huh???

Well, they really AREN'T when I first get them  (see above) ~ but when I add a little sanding and all that comes with refinishing ~ SURPRISE ~ this is exactly what happened with this little table.  I just KNEW that someone would just {HEART} her.  I decided on a pretty pale blue ~ so, the sanding and priming begin ~ then the gorgeous paint ~ oh, it was STUNNING as soon as I put the first paint brush to it ~ yep, this one is a diamond in the rough. Then,  I sent a pic. of it to a customer who was looking for a headboard (we were having this e-mail chat at 11:30 p.m., o.k ~) she fell in love with Abby.  Needless to say, the customer, who is a wonderful and lovely lady named Valarie ~ picked up Abby on Sunday.  I have found a new friend and Abby is blessed to be in a wonderful new home.

Shabby Chic White Headboard ~ Tabitha

Here lately, I've been picking up headboards ~ seems like everyone needs one.  Guess what?  I don't even have one on my kingsize bed ~ I actually am working on my bedroom ~ trying to give it a shabby chic look with the whites and turqoise but its a work in progress.  Anyway, back to the headboards ~ here is one I recently picked up ~ named her TABITHA ~ cute pretty, don;t you think?  Here is the BEFORE:
I knew when I picked up this headboard that it was going to be white ~ it looks so dainty and ladylike ~ I would have kept it for my bed if it was king but it's not.  On this particular piece, I didn't quite know how to paint it ~ handle with care all the little details, curves, etc.  So, I ventured and bought spray paint!  Yep.....sure did and this is how it turned out ~

Here is the full view of it......Tabitha ~ the shabby chic little lady ~
Thanks for stopping by my blog......come back and see what else is new here ~

Have a blessed day :)

When Life Throws You a Curb Ball ~ And You're Trying To Paint Furniture

Ever think that life is going pretty good ~ you're happy ~ the furniture you're painting is looking FABULOUS DARLING ~ then, bam!  Everything changes from one instant to the next ~ just one phone call from a daughter or son (in my case, daughter) saying she needs to move back home (with the three kids) ~ what am I supposed to say????  Life got a little hectic for a few days ~ re-arranging bedrooms ~ emptying closets to give THEM room ......now what do I do what all MY stuff???    It took me a few days (won't tell you how many, but a few).....to get back on track and start painting, blogging, painting and to get my sanity again.

O.K.~ so, I'll be back again tomorrow with pictures of some things that I have finished again ~ for right now ~ the quiet is so NICE.....can anybody relate to me?  Please say you do..... this is my granddaughter, Samantha ~ always happy and smiling.  She loves being with grandma.

Until then, my friends, may God Bless You and keep you safe.

Found Something New Today ~

A few days ago I was reading another blog that I follow and they mentioned a product called "rub n'buff" ~ I've never heard of it, nor do I know what I'm going to do with it, BUT I was out on the hunt for it today. Went to Walmart craft section ~ no luck; went to Home Depot ~ no luck; but I did get some new paint and brushes and a couple of other things I couldn't do without. But then again, that's always the case for me when I go into Home Depot or Lowes :) Then, I thought, well, let me try Michael's ~ surely they will have it ~ yes, they did. http://www.amaco.com/ is the company that makes this little product ~ its supposed to make alot of your items BEAUTIFUL.  So, I can't wait to try it ~ I bought the Patina and Silver Leaf color ~ o.k., soooooo, what can I paint that has lots of details, curves, etc. so I can experiment with this.....hhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmm.

I got it ~ have a little rolltop desk in my garage that I haven't started working on yet ~ that's going to be my guinea pig.  Sorry, that sounds mean but you know what I mean ~ so, stay tuned.  I will start working on this project tomorrow and hopefully next week, it will be finished.

Have some makeovers for a couple of clients to do, so MY projects are going to have to wait.....

Thanks for stopping by ~ please send me pictures of something YOU have done.

Debut of "Taylor" ~ Beautiful Petite Dresser

"Taylor" is ready to show her color now ~ she was the usual brown which is not bad but here at "yOuNiQuE727" we like BEAUTIFUL.....the dovetails drawers and the details on the side of this little piece are so gorgeous.  I also think this could be used as a buffet, if you wanted to, I guess.

Well, in case you didn't see my other posting on "Taylor ~ in process" here it is:

O.K., now here she is AFTER I painted and glazed her:

Again, amazing what a little color and glaze does for a piece of furniture, huh?

I hope you like her as much as I do ~ she is now available for only $225 ~

Until tomorrow ~ have a blessed day

Girly Girl Headboard & Nightstands

A couple of postings ago, I mentioned that my daughter had gone on a hunt for headboards ~ oh, sorry, this one I'm about to post ISN'T one of them, but I'll post it anyway.  When I first saw it, I really loved the curves and the details on it ~ again, sat around in my garage for a while.  Well, recently I found these two beautiful french provincial nightstands at a garage sale.  They were pretty but needed a little TLC ~ brought them home and here is the outcome.  First the headboard:

O.k., then the precious nighstands, which luckily, I do have the BEFORE pics., here those are

And, then here they are AFTER they were painted the beautiful yellow to match the headboard.  I really love
this style of nightstands ~ so elegant and feminine:

Taylor ~ Small Dresser In Process

I have had this beautiful piece in my garage for about two weeks now ~ wasn't quite sure what color ~ didn't want to make the wrong decision.  Then, it hit me ~ if I paint it a mellow yellow, springy yellowish, light yellow, some kind of yellow ~ it can't be too bad.  So, here is a preview of what I've done so far ~ its a very light pretty yellow then I glazed the top and the sides (not the drawers yet)

After I glazed it, I wasn't sure if I was feeling it or not ~ I let two days go by ~ my mom came over and she really likes it ~ she only saw the TOP of it, which is the glazed part.  So, now I will go ahead and glaze the rest of the drawers.

These are the BEFORE pics, then the IN PROCESS....will post the AFTER pics next week sometime.

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY TO ALL THE MOM~

Lucy ~ The Antique Sewing Machine Table

I LOVE LUCY ~ if you remember this show then we can relate....that's a good thing. If you don't know anything about this show ~ it was a fun, family oriented, and great show. When I first picked up this table ~ my mom asked me "what are you going to do with THAT?" I replied to her, "it has lots of potential and it can serve multiple purposes ~ don't know exactly what yet, but let me think about it. Lucy ~ that's her name ~ didn't talk to me at first and I wasn't quite feeling it ~ if you know what I mean ~ I didn't know what color, what combination, etc. Then, someone asked me to custom paint Lucy for them in silver with black legs ~ I normally asked people to pay me 1/2 upfront via paypal ~ this person said she didn't use paypal but that she would send me a money order ~ so, I said o.k. The work begin ~ I went out and bought the custom paints needed for this project ~ a beautiful silver paint AND a Ralph Lauren Metallic Glaze ~ if you know anything about paint, you know this is not cheap. Well, I waited for a few days waiting for her "money order" ~ needless to say ~ it never arrived. After Lucy was complete ~ I notified the customer that the piece was ready and had been custom painted in the colors she requested ~ she never responded. Unfortunately, Lucy sat around for about two months with no one wanting to claim her ~ until TODAY. A wonderful lady named Susan claimed her ~ I knew that one day someone would love Lucy like I did. Lucy was delivered to her home today ~ I am happy because I know she is in a happy home.

Michelle ~ Lowboy Dresser

We (my sister Nel and I) picked this piece up from a couple that had listed it on C/L ~ drove for about 45 minutes to the destination. When we arrived, it was a warehouse where this couple had lots of STUFF......I mean all kinds of STUFF. We were only interested in this piece, though ~ Nel saw it and fell in love with it. Now, mind you, I had to CONVINCE her before this that it could be a pretty piece of furniture with some sanding and painting. She wasn't too sure when she first the pics on C/L ~ but we drove over there anyway.

Well, I was right ~ it needed work but had lots of potential. Nel decided to paint it a beautiful TURQOISE color (its a very popular color right now) ~ she distressed it, added new hardware and here she is now....her name is MICHELLE.

Here is a BEFORE and AFTER pic.....let's see how long it takes before someone takes her home. We just posted her yesterday....the countdown is on.

Her First Headboard ~ Ebony

My daughter finished her very first headboard ~ it actually turned out really pretty. Its a pretty, simple black but it looks elegant at the same time ~ the color black always looks elegant on furniture and on clothes.

Now she wants to finish the OTHER headboards she found for me ~ remember those? She actually almost is ~ the little twin size one is SO CUTE I can't wait to post it. She even has a little matching table to go with it ~ isn't she clever?

Well, its been a rather hectic day and I need to finish my piece ~ its named TAYLOR and its gorgeous. It will be a couple of days before its finished but you won't be dissappointed ~

Come back, you hear.......

Annie ~ The Beautiful Red Buffet

I was out running errands one Monday morning when I saw a little resale store that I had never noticed before. My mom and my sister were with me as well and I hesitated to stop as I knew they would probably be bored if I went in to see what they had. I stopped anyway and went in very quickly (mom and sister stayed in car).....the first piece I saw was a little sad looking buffet ~ she had great bones but needed a major facelift ~ I asked how much she was ~ the lady said $XXXX ~ it was a GREAT DEAL. I said, LOAD HER UP.

I decided to name her ANNIE ~ I put her in my shop/garage and she sat there for a few weeks. I knew it was going to take a few days to fix her up and sure enough, it did ~ I worked on her for about one week ~ the surgery was done, the sanding, and now ready for the painting.

Now to decide what color ~ why not red? Red is a BOLD color but I thought, why not?

After I posted Annie on C/L ~ I had several requests for her ~ it was really difficult telling people she was no longer available ~ heck, it was hard for me to let her gooooo! She looked so pretty in my foyer but oh well, on to the next project.

O.K., here is a BEFORE pic and the AFTER pic ~ let me know if red was a good color....

I really like Annie.

Headboard Anyone???

Did I ever mention that my family is involved in my business??? I mean, my "yOuNiQuE727" business... Just a couple of days ago I mentioned to my daughter, Melissa, that I really needed some headboards to work on. Saturday came around and as usual, I was already swamped with other projects. She said to me, "mom, let me go see what I can find for you"......so, off my daughter went in my SUV on a hunt for headboards.
To be perfectly honest, I was expecting anything as she doesn't really do this type of stuff ~ she works in the corporate world not in my painting world...lol.

Anywho, a few hours later, she pulls up in my SUV and BACKS IT UP ~ this is what I do when I have items to unload! She totally surprised me ~ she started pulling out not only headboards but other pieces as well. WOW ~ I was so shocked ~ shocked because she actually picked up pieces that I LIKED. We have totally different taste in clothes, furniture, etc. so this is why I was shocked.

So, now she has begun working on them. I am going to post pictures of the BEFORE ~ come back in a few days and I'll have the AFTER ~ I also had pieces already to make up an entire bedroom suite ~ HOW COOL IS THIS~
